Dear ICO Society Leaders,
We are facing a truly unprecedented situation. The COVID-19 pandemic
presents a major challenge to health care providers around the globe.
While the world is asked to stay home with social distancing
recommendations, our ophthalmology colleagues and their teams continue
to provide urgent care to our patients.
As ophthalmologists and eye health teams working in close proximity to
their patients as part of the eye examinations and treatment, they
are at particularly high risk of being exposed to the virus and
contracting COVID-19. The protection of health care providers and
patients is critical due to the rapid spread of coronavirus.
These times remind us of how important it is to stay connected and to
share information and knowledge. In response to the growing needs of our
global eye health community, we are launching an ICO Global COVID-19
Resource Center where information can be shared and accessed so that we
can learn from one another. If you have guidelines and recommendations
that we can share with our global community to help protect eye health
providers on the front lines, please email them to COVID19resources@icoph.org.
Resources dedicated to COVID-19 are available from the World Health Organization, in addition to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Canadian Ophthalmological Society, and the French Ophthalmology Society.
As our colleagues work tirelessly in the days and weeks ahead, we
acknowledge their courage and the efforts of all those providing eye
care on the front lines during these unprecedented times.
